Sunshine Blogger Award//January Noodles Obssession

Alright I’m back! Yes, a little late but I had a wedding to attend; The food wasn’t that awesome. That reminds me! Why am I spotting an inverse relationship between a) Food and b) Everything else, wherever I go? Is it just me or is this some new fad in the industry? These days my one-line party reviews are either “I had fun” OR “the food was amazing”. Nevermind.

So I just found out that Anna has nominated me for the “Sunshine Blogger’s Award.” She disappears from here on long streaks (like me) but she’s an awesome blogger–Yeah we’ve a lot in common. Check out her Life Put Simple blog here.

First up let’s answer Anna’s questions:

  • If you could only read one author for the rest of your life, who would it be?

I can’t read just one author; I’d rather not read at all. But since this is a hypothetical situation, I choose David Sedaris; If I’m going to read someone for the rest of my life, they better be funny.
Or Ruskin Bond. Then I’ll have a huge collection to pick from.
But I’m never going to try this in reality.

  • What is that one item in your closet that you don’t understand why you bought?

Again, there is no “one” such item. But the latest one is this pair of purple yoga pants. They are so awesome–the kind of workout clothes you won’t dare to sweat in! But I badly need a new pair, so now I have to buy some real pants that I can actually sweat in.

  • What is the last song you listened to?

Soy yo – Bomba Estereo (Yes I just checked…)

  • Last book you read?

Let Sleeping Vets lie by James H.

It’s hilarious. Especially the monk chapter, and the soap-water, and the lambing, and. . . the whole book left me in splits. Gotta read it to know it. Yes, that was a silent recommendation.

  • Last movie you watched?

Re-watched The Help. it’s one of my favorites.

  • What do you look for in a friend? Why?

No, you won’t find me with a microscope probing prospective friends for pre-defined attributes, i.e. I don’t look for any stuff; just that simple connection. You either do or you don’t, or sometimes you don’t but later you do (Connect, I mean). I know a lot many people with shared interests and people I hang out with all the time, but I don’t necessarily consider them “friends” friends. And then I have a handful of friends, half of whom I don’t have much similarities to share with except that connection I just mentioned!

  • If you had to be someone else in this world, who would you be (fictional characters not included) ?

If fictional characters are out of the question, I’d rather be me.

  • What is the most positive thing you have gotten out of blogging?

The warmy-happy feeling that comes with every notification! More so if it’s a comment.

  • If you could be related to one celebrity, who would it be?

Jimmy Fallon/Oprah.

  • Current obsession/s?

Noodles. I’m not kidding.

So January was half over, and I suddenly realized (while stuffing my face with noodles) that I was on an unstoppable noodle spree. Plus I’m not the kind who patiently takes food pics and doesn’t shove it straight in (neverminding the temperature). But that day I decided to do it–to keep a picture-tab in case there’s a next time. There was a next time… And a next one…

And some more…

And don’t go on judging my pasta by its looks. Something I learned from the last wedding: The more exotic it looks, the…you know, Inverse relationship!

That reminds me, yes, it’s all my very own genuine creation.

The people who consumed it?

Don’t worry they’re still breathing.

  • Why do you blog?

This question is more suitable to people who use WordPress as if it’s Instagram. Guys, why don’t y’all use instagram for insta-ing and the blog for blogging? Do you type super-wordy posts on insta? Or post mute wordless pictures on twitter? Okay I’ve seen people do that too. Here’s a simple one: why did you start the blog? Write something! Who here wants to see your pouts from 40 different angles? No puedo mas!

That was fun!

So you must be wondering: What is this Sunshine Blogger thing? (Or maybe not.)

Ahem. “The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.” – Anna’s words

How Does It Work?
1. Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog (duh)
2. Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
3. Nominate up to 11 blogs and ask them 11 new questions
4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your blog-post
5. Rules are to tweak; Take it easy.

And here is my list of questions:

1. What is that question you hate to answer the most?

2. What’s the most horrible a.k.a. “It tasted delicious in my head” recipe you came up with? If you don’t cook, what’s the most gross thing you ever ate? Here’s mine!

image

Trust me, you don’t want to see its true colors.

3. Chicken or bacon? Explain gravitational waves. Don’t google; I’ll know.

4. When was the last time you helped out a stranger? Or a close friend?

5. If you were given any superpower for only one day, which day would you choose? (guess you weren’t expecting that..)

6. Which language do you think in? (Yeah I’m assuming you’re bilingual.)

7. The funniest thing you’ve seen someone do in public?

8. Have you won any contests/competitions/olympics maybe? Which was the last one?

9. What’s the most useless (according to others) talent/s you have?

10. What’s the best Wi-Fi name you’ve seen?

11. The last time you tried something for the first time? (Yeah rack that brain!)

Okay here’s my little twist: If you’re reading this and would love to participate, please do! (Even if you’re not nominated.) If you’re too lazy to write a post, feel welcome to type your answers in the comments-club below.
For those nominated and don’t feel like doing this, that’s okay too.

My nominations:

Maniacal Book Unicorn
Nutty Wordsmith
Hiding Behind Books
Kimaya Devasthali
A Season Of Mountains
This Music Nerd
Awkwardaris
Pankaj Goyal
Lucy’s Journal

Have fun guys! I’m waiting for the answers…

  1. 8. I just won a prestigious pizza eating contest in the house few hours back! I can’t sleep now.My little sisters were the tough contenders. What have you?

    1. The last one was this aerial silk competition (2nd place). But a couple years back I won the #BrunchBookChallenge on twitter…read 50 books that year 🙂

All that aside, even I am a consistent winner of competitive eating contests in the house!!

  2. Thank you for nominating me! (And more importantly, allowing me to spam your comment section :-D)

    Here goes:

    1. Why do you climb mountains?
I usually answer this with a Ruskin Bond quote (from the about page) cos no matter what I say, people don’t understand what makes someone toil up a mountain, only to come down and put their life in possible danger. I guess it’s one of those things which you either understand and love or you don’t.
(Actually I do have a quasi-philosophical answer to this question which I have been planning to jot down on my blog for the longest time but currently it sits pretty in my drafts folder along with 20 other posts 😀 )

    2. I stick to cooking very simple things (Deserts actually.. cos Sugar! You can never go wrong with it and nothing bad has happened to the folks until now! Err.. does afflicting people with Diabetes count?)
So I’ll have to go back about 5 years when we went to this really nice restaurant in South Bombay. The place was nice and the staff super friendly but someone ordered a spicy oriental rice (something like that) and it looked.. exotic. You must have guessed why my taste buds go numb even today when I recollect that evening.

    3. Can’t. The last time I explained a physics phenomenon without resorting to Google was… Never 😛
On second thoughts, does using Bing count? 😀

    4. Last week. Filled up a form for a labourer at the railway counter while I was waiting for my turn to renew pass. But that doesn’t sound interesting! So I ‘ll mention an incident from Pune when I ended up helping someone despite not intending to!
It was my first time in the city and on the day of my exam, got onto a bus at 7am only to realise that I had left my ID back at my friend’s room. Alighted 4 odd kms away from the complex and crossed over to board a bus in the opposite direction (It’s really difficult to get anything else on Pashan road). The conductor asked me to alight when it reached the complex stop. So I walked over to the gate and the buildings didn’t look familiar. Security guard said the complex wing I am looking for, is 10 mins away from the gate I was standing at (t’s a h-u-g-e complex! Btw, Is India the only place where distance is measured in terms of walking time?). Anyways! I start walking as fast as I can with the backpack when a scooty pulls up beside me and the guy asks me if I know where ‘so-so’ place is. I have no freaking idea but I say yes, I am going in that direction. So he tells me to hop on, drops me at my wing’s gate. I figured it wouldn’t be great idea to be run over by an angry rider and instead of the truth, told him to proceed along the road and confirm with another person after a riding a kilometre. He thanked me with a beaming smile and went ahead. I collected my ID & barely reached the centre on time, all thanks to that guy!
Later that day, I got to know the place that the scooty guy was looking for, actually lies 5 kms further down the road! 😀 So, yeah I did help him after all! 😛

    5. Sunday. My mountain escapades are mostly on weekends so I can do with a bit of oxygen boost while climbing!

    6. English (with an accent to boot) when I have been reading voraciously. (Is it just me or others too think like the characters from the book they last read?) In emergencies (which is often), there’s nothing that comes close to Marathi (my mother tongue, obviously!) to express the panic! 😀

    7. Apart from the embarrassing situations my friends (and I) regularly keep getting into, nothing actually. People have become too robotic in the public space, unfortunately  Or maybe we are engrossed in our own world? Whatever.

    8. The last competition I won was an inter-college team competition. We were really chuffed and expected to be treated like celebs when we walked back into college with the rolling trophy only to be let down. But the trophy kinda resembled the cricket world cup, so we did end up with pretty good pictures atleast! 😀

    9. I can add up numbers fast. Really fast. It was my ticket to bragging in the school days but mobile phone has rendered that superpower of mine useless. Alas!

    10. This is a tough one! I have come across plenty of creative names in my list ever since Jio exploded on the scene. But the one that really cracked me up was this open wifi connection that regularly popped up at night (and still does. I guess it’s someone’s cell network doubling up as hotspot).
The name: Le Bhikari le (Literal translation= Yeah take it beggar, take it)

    11. I recently signed up on a dating app for the first time (Tinder) after much dilly dallying. Uninstalled it the same day. People may find it interesting and to each his own but I am not a fan :-/

P.S. Which is your favourite Ruskin Bond story?

      1. I am notorious for writing long posts & comments! 😛
And yeah! I was in luck that day.. otherwise being asked to confirm directions with another person, that too on a straight road was a dead giveaway! 😀
My favourite also happens to be the first one I read- The Room on the Roof 🙂

  3. Great post. I enjoyed reading your answers. Celebrity relative, yeah I’s pick Oprah too haha. Your comment about David Sedaris has me curious about his book. I have only read Me Talk Pretty On Day. Will definitely look for more of his titles.
